ICE agents are federal law enforcement officers who work for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a division of the Department of Homeland Security. Their mission is to enforce immigration laws, conduct criminal investigations, protect national security, and ensure public safety. ICE agents have two main roles through two components: Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), which focuses on criminal investigations including human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cybercrime; and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), responsible for apprehending, detaining, and deporting undocumented immigrants. ICE agents do not patrol borders; that duty belongs to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
