To reset a Ring doorbell to factory settings:
- Make sure the Ring doorbell is powered on.
- Remove the cover plate by unscrewing the screw at the bottom. You will typically need a T15 Torx screwdriver or a similar bit to do this.
- Locate the setup or reset button on the side or under the faceplate of the doorbell.
- Press and hold the button for about 15 to 20 seconds until the light on the doorbell starts flashing or changes to a swirling blue light.
- Release the button, and the doorbell will enter setup mode, indicating it has been reset to factory defaults and is ready to be set up again through the Ring app.
This process works for most Ring doorbell models, including wired and battery ones. After the reset, you may have to set up the device again in your Ring app on your phone. If the doorbell is linked to an account and you want to remove it, you can also remove the device from the Ring app's device settings after the reset. The reset button location may vary:
- Wired doorbells: under the faceplate on the right side.
- Battery models: under the faceplate or on the back.
You may need a T15 Torx bit or Ring screwdriver tool to remove the cover and access the reset button. This method is a factory reset that clears previous settings and associations, making the doorbell ready for a fresh setup.
